NICARAGUA – Posoli Village Water Project
The provision of sustainable and affordable safe water must, along with sanitation and hygiene education, be a key component of assistance to developing countries. In rural Nicaragua we are working with the villagers of Posoli, a village of some 345 inhabitants who can now benefit from such assistance.
With the help of El Porvenir, a local NGO, the villagers of Posoli have dug a 13.5 metre well. But to finish the project, more work now needs to be done on the well. So, our donation will provide the funds to continue with this project. The well can now be lined and sealed, a rope pump will be installed, and an adjacent storage tank will be constructed, with an in-line chlorinator to treat the water for potability as it is pumped through.
Maintenance of the well and storage facilities will be in the hands of a Potable Water and Sanitation Committee. Additionally, users of the well will pay a small levy which will be used to build up a fund. This will be used to finance the provision of any spare parts needed for the maintenance of the well or the storage tank.
For all 345 inhabitants of Posoli, including the children from the village primary school, the completion of this well will in a very real sense, change their lives.
Our thanks go to Just a Drop, who introduced us to this Project.
